Help us as staff!

Abunai! is recruiting! Do you have what it takes to become part of our staff?

Organising Abunai! is a lot of work. We work whole year round to present the convention to our visitors. Staffmembers are responsible for a part of the workload, creating this convention together. We are looking for commited people who want to help improve the convention and do not mind spending a few hours each week working towards creating a great event for our visitors. If you are enthousiastic about helping us then look at the profile below and see if it fits you.

Are you:

  • Interested in promoting Japanese culture
  • Able to spend a few hours a week working on the convention
  • Willing to help with promotion and visit staff meetings
  • Willing to participate in discussions on how to improve Abunai!
  • Able to work with deadlines
  • Committed; Abunai! is more then just a hobby, it is a voluenteer job!
  • Able to show initiative
  • Communicate in a team
  • Enthousiastic
  • Able to speak and write correct Dutch and English would be nice, but is not mandatory for all functions.

Then you are the one we might be looking for!

We are not looking for people who just like to be in the staff for the heck of it. Each staff member has a responsibility for certain parts of the organization of the convention and is expected to show enough serious effort and motivation for the tasks they are responsible for.

If the above is a bit too much for you but you still want to help out, please read the following to see how.

Besides people to join and strengthen Abunai!’s core staff, we’re also looking for people who want to help out the Abunai! convention, but may find themselves bound by restraints of time or other obligations. Are you good at DTP’ing? Or a superior spellchecker? Are you a webdesigner, or knowledgable about rules and regulations, or know everything about catering? Do you want to offer your services to Abunai!, but are you unsure that you can donate the time required for it? Apply anyway!

We’re building up a whole database of volunteers who are enthousiastic about Abunai! and want to offer their services when they’re needed. This way you can help out our organisation without having to join our staff, yet at the same time our volunteer database might just as well be a stepping stone to joining our team somewhere in the future, when circumstances are more favorable.

How to apply:

Send an email to info@stichtingabunai.nl with a application letter and a resume in Dutch or English. We will contact you about an interview within two weeks. This may be face to face or over the phone. If you are accepted, you will start in a trial period to see how you fit within our team. This all sounds really official, but don’t let this stop you from applying. We have a team of very nice people and organising Abunai! is a lot of work but at the same time it’s very fun and rewarding!

Job Openings:

Besides looking for staff members and support in all sections within Abunai! (see above), we’re sometimes also looking for people to fulfill some very specific jobs. These you will find over here as well. At present we only have one very specific job opening, namely:

Concert staff

Abunai! is looking for a new member for our Media team. In this position you will be joining several experienced staff members, who will be helping you find your way into the world of our concerts. In this position you will be the main contact for the bands and you will have to initiate contact. We’d love someone with a stage-tech background, but this is not a must. We do however need someone who is into Japanese (or maybe some other Asian music…?), and who is not afraid to take risks. You need to be open to suggestions, and be able to negotiate and keep in touch with the bands and/or management.

Staff member Sponsoring

We are looking for a dedicated staff member for our Sponsoring department. Within this job you will work on finding new parties to sponsor Abunai!. You will also help set up various kinds of sponsor deals in cooperation with other commissions within Abunai! and maintain connections with existing sponsors.

Are you:

  • pro-active;
  • able to work independently;
  • strong in written and verbal communication;
  • fluent in both Dutch and English language;
  • proficient at networking?

Events Staff

Abunai! is looking for a staff member who can help us with setting up and recruit Events for our programme at the Abunai! convention. Things that spring to mind are coming up with ideas for workshops, lectures, competitions and everything that can be interesting, fun or just plain amazing for our visitors and work out these events for the convention itself.

Are you:

  • proactive;
  • confident;
  • independent;
  • a good communicator;
  • enthousiastic about the Abunai! programme;
  • interested in Japan and the Japanese (pop)culture.

Then we are looking for you!

As a member of the Events team you will work on shaping the programme for the Abunai! convention when it comes to all the workshops, lectures, competitions and such, in which our visitors will be able to participate all weekend long. You will think along with the ideas for the programme, will look for people or organizations who can arrange these events for us, make arrangements about these events, make sure materials and related matters are taken care of and will make sure that the events you have prepared are held without a hitch.

What will you get in return? You will get a lot of experience in setting up events, will work in a great team and get the chance to put your stamp on the most visible part of Abunai! for our visitors; the programme!

For this position you will need around 8 hours a week, where the work load will be lower in the beginning of the year, but might be higher as convention gets closer.

Game room Staff

Abunai! is looking for a staff member who can help us with setting up the Gameroom for our programme at the Abunai! convention. Things that spring to mind are: coming up with ideas for games, competitions and everything that can be interesting, fun or just plain amazing for our visitors.

Are you:

  • proactive;
  • confident;
  • independent;
  • a good communicator;
  • enthousiastic about the Abunai! programme;
  • interested in Japan and the Japanese (pop)culture.

Then we are looking for you!

As the gameroom manager you will work on shaping the programme for the Abunai! convention when it comes to all games and such, in which our visitors will be able to participate all weekend long. You will think along with the ideas for the programme, will look for people or organizations who can arrange the gameroom for us, make arrangements for it and make sure materials and related matters are taken care of. You will also make sure that the gameroom you have prepared are held without a hitch.

What will you get in return? You will get a lot of experience in setting up events, will work in a great team and get the chance to put your stamp on one of the visible parts of Abunai! for our visitors: the programme!

For this position you will need around 8 hours per week, where the work load will be lower in the beginning of the year, but might be higher as the convention gets closer.

Staff Member Customer Services

We are looking for dedicated staff members for our new Customer Services department. Within this job you will answer questions from our visitors through e-mail and on social media (Twitter and Facebook). You will redirect questions to the right departments and provide customer support. Are you:

  • helpful;
  • friendly;
  • proactive;
  • patient;
  • strong in written communication;
  • excellent in both Dutch and English language;

The function requires 6 hours a week, with peak moments when our ticket sales open and in the final weeks before the start of the convention.

Catering staff

Abunai! is looking for a new member for our Location team. In this function you will have contact with all catering parties, and our current location, NH Koningshof. In this position we would like someone to give a fresh face to our catering. Maybe even some food trucks! Are you a good communicator, negotiator, and would you like an interesting volunteer job? Are you:

  • Innovating
  • Proactive
  • A good communicator
  • Fluent in both Dutch and English?

Would you like to help us improve Abunai!, and want to put your stamp on something? Then we are looking for you! What will you get in return? Abunai! is a great way to improve your resume and by helping us out you will get a lot of experience in different roles, so if you recognize yourself in this position, and have a few hours to spare, don’t hesitate to email us at info@abunaicon.nl, with your resume and your cover letter.

Location staff

Abunai! is looking for a new member for our Location team. In this position you will be joining several experienced staff members, who will be our main contact team for our current location, NH Koningshof. In this function you will be expected to negotiate and work out the location specifics in our event. Examples of this are working out what to place in certain areas, and to communicate between our staff and the location. In this position you will get quite a few information requests, and we would like someone that is quite analytic, and a strong communicator. So are you:

  • A good communicator
  • Analytic
  • Proactive
  • Independent?
