Have you ever wondered what it’s like to voice an anime or cartoon character? At Abunai! 2017, Dutch voice-acting is thrust into the limelight with Sync.
Voice-actors Joop van den Beucken (known as Mojo Jojo) and Bob van der Houven (known as Stitch), worked with the team from popular internet show Stemmen Van Toen and charity foundation Bekende Belvrienden, to dive deep into the world of dubbing.
In The Netherlands only children’s cartoons, shows and films get dubbed, unlike many other European countries where live-action movies for older audiences get dubbed also.
Sync will show you the unique history of dubbing in The Netherlands. The documentary gives an intricate look into the practice and the talents behind the microphone.
They interviewed passionate actors, directors, translators and audio-engineers to talk about their beautiful profession and what it’s like to faithfully adapt a cartoon or anime. Among the voice actors interviewed are Arnold Gelderman (Scar, Robin Hood, Lord Farquaad), Sander van der Poel (Zuko, Draco Malfoy) and Niki Romijn (Clover, Bloom).
Intrigued? Come and watch Sync at Abunai! 2017. The documentary will screen on Friday and on Saturday. The exact airing times will follow shortly.
As voice acting is such a big part of what makes anime and cartoons special, we decided to fill the whole Saturday with a line up of Sync-related events.
At Meet & Greets you can meet the voices of your childhood, at panels you can ask the filmmakers questions. You can also collect autographs and take a picture with your voice hero.
