Weekly Abunai! Skype Chat
6th of May 2013
In the last two years we hosted a weekly MSN Chat Hour in the last few months before the convention. Alas, things change, and Microsoft's age-old chat client has merged with Skype. Naturally we did not let that stop us: the Abunai! MSN Chat Hour may be no more, but instead we offer you the Abunai! Weekly Skype Chat!
Starting tomorrow (May 7th) the Abunai! staff will be available on Skype to answer all the questions about the convention you might have. We will do this every week on Tuesday from 20:00 till 21:00 O'clock. Do note that, while we will try to answer your questions on the spot, every staff member has their own field of expertise. For example, one staff member may know all about ticket registrations but not so much about the events, or vice versa.
You can also talk to us during this chat session if you have ideas or suggestions regarding the convention. Please do be patient during the chat sessions, as we might be busy looking up the information that you requested or helping another visitor with their question. Take note we will not be holding Voice or Video Chats, this Skype Chat will be text only. Booting off this Tuesday will be our chairman Lennart. You can add us on: chat@stichtingabunai.nl
Update registrations and hotel rooms
26th of April 2013
Last Monday we posted that we had some issues with our ticket registration system and that it would remain offline until we had finished moving it to our new host. This process has now been completed, and the registration system is available again. As for the second round of hotel room sales: they won't be made available right now but will be delayed so we can give a timely announcement on exactly when this will happen. We want to make some final checks until then, and also give you time to prepare so everybody will have an equal chance on obtain a room at NH Koningshof.
Events announcements
23rd of April 2013
As you all might know our events staff is working hard to create an amazing programme. So we are proud to announce some events. Please check here for more information.
Second round of hotel room sales delayed
22nd of April 2013
Unfortunately the previously announced second round of hotel room sales has been delayed. A combination of several factors proved too much for our current site host, and as a result the website and registration system were temporary unavailable. We were already in process of switching to a new hosting provider, so we will speed up this process, so we can open up registrations again on our new host.
This also means that our registration system will remain offline until further notice and that it will not be possible to register or alter your registration. This to ensure that the normal website remains available and to offer everyone an equal chance on obtaining the additional hotel rooms. The processing of payments is done through a different system, so this will continue as normal, and visitors who have already signed up will still receive their ticket as normal.
We apologize for the delay and will do our best to get registrations up and running again as soon as possible. A date and time for this will be announced on our website and social media (Twitter/Facebook) as soon as it becomes available.
Signing up for Cosplay Act, Cosplay Fashion Show and EuroCos!
9th of April 2013
Always dreamed about taking main stage? Are you proficient with needle and thread, cardboard, paper-mache... Or would you rather build your suit Iron-man style? Do you want to show that you are Shepard, Yuki-hime or Silver Crow to everyone at Abunai!? Or maybe you have four friends, colored Red, Yellow, Blue and Green and the act you made together will take the stage by storm.
Seize this opportunity! The sign-ups for the Cosplay Fashion Show and Cosplay Act Competition are now open! How can you sign up? Look at the forums for the Cosplay Fashion Show rules and sign-up procedure or the Cosplay Act Competition rules and sign-up procedure. The best cosplayer in the Euro Cosplay Preliminaries will even be sent to London to participate at the 2013 EuroCos!
As always a limited number of sign-up spots are available.
Currently we are still planning the day and time of each competition. By the end of this month (april) we will announce the day on which each competition will be held.
Second round of hotel room sales
2nd of April 2013
Of course most of you quickly realized that yesterday's hotel room announcement was an April Fool's joke. However following that red herring we have some actual news regarding the hotel rooms to share as well.
We already announced some time ago that there would be a second round of hotel room sales coming up: reservations that were not paid for in time have become available again, and we've also got a good view now on how many room we'll need for those helping with the organisation of Abunai!.
All rooms that we have left will become available again for reservation on April 22nd at 20:00. We advise you to try and get your rooms quickly however, as cancellations from the first round were scarce, and the amount of rooms available will be limited!
The Hotel Games
1st of April 2013
We want to fairly divide the remaining rooms at NH Koningshof, so we've decided to hold a battle royale for them. The highest ranking winners shall receive the privilege to get these rooms first.
Where?
We will be holding the battle where it all started: on the sports field of Universiteit Twente.
When?
12:00pm at the 31st of April
Rules
There are no rules. We provide the weapons. People in their cosplay shall receive an extra advantage.
Please sign up here.
Animation workshop, bring-your-own-laptop?
30th of March 2013
A new animation workshop will take place on Abunai! this year and we were wondering if those interested in animation would consider bringing their own laptop to the convention. Because this is a first, we would like you to take part in a poll on this matter, which is located here. Thanks in advance for your help, we appreciate it.
Hotelrooms update
14th of February 2013
It has been only a few days since our ticket registration opened, and so far it has completely exceeded even our wildest expectations. As a result all two person rooms in NH Koningshof have already been booked. If you do not have a hotel room yet there are still a few options we can offer you. We still have a share of single person rooms available, as well as some two person rooms at the NH Best Location. NH Best is about a fifteen minute drive away however. For more information visit: our location info page.
A second option will be to wait for rooms to free up again. There will most likely be a second round of NH Koningshof room sales. The rooms that have been registered now but aren't paid for in time will be freed up again for new registrations. In addition, it's possible that some rooms reserved for guests become available again as well. We will keep these rooms blocked and give you a date on which we will start a second round of hotel room sales. This date will be announced well in advance, so you can prepare and give yourselves the best chance at obtaining a room. So keep an eye on our website and social media for future updates regarding this!

Survey 2012 - Thank you!
27th of January 2013
The survey we launched a few months ago has now ended. We would like to thank everyone who participated for taking their time in doing so. The questions you've answered have given us some insight in our visitors and what they want, and some ideas for future Abunai! conventions as well. Some statistics have proven to be exactly as we anticipated, while others turned out more surprising. Here's a small glimpse of the survey's results:
- The Dealer Room proved to be the most popular by far: 98% of our guests visited the Dealer Room at least once;
- On an Event Level, our Cosplay Events are still the most popular events during the weekend;
- 56% of our visitors did not watch any anime while at Abunai!
- 60% attended Abunai! in cosplay; 20% of our visitors wore 3 or more cosplays during the weekend.
Furthermore some of you have left some valuable feedback in your survey, which we'll surely have a detailled look at to see how we can put it to use. Of course all information will be treated as confidential. Of course if you have any new ideas or suggestions for our festival, you can always contact us -we'd love to hear your thoughts!

Responsetime during Abunai!
23rd of August 2012
Because most staff members are already at the convention site and busy with the preparations for Abunai! we have very little time left to answer questions (both forum question and email questions) from visitors. We'll try to pick out the most important ones if we find the time to answer them, but it's possible we will not be able to respond in time. We thank you for your understanding in this, and... see you at Abunai! :)

Unfortunately there are no more available rooms in hotel NH De Koningshof.
Cosplay Act Competition cancelled
7th of July 2012
Regretfully we must inform you that the Cosplay Act Competition of Abunai! 2012 has been cancelled. Unfortunately there were not enough participants to hold this event. We hope you will all apply for participation again next year with your best ideas.
This way we can host an amazing show again next year!
We would also like to know your reasons for not participating this year. This way we can get insight in the underlying cause for the low number of applications for this year's competition. We hope to use these ideas to improve participation next year. Please send us an e-mail to the following address: cac<at>stichtingabunai<dot>nl.
Looking for Gophers
26th of June 2012
We're still looking for a few volunteers to strengthen our ranks and to help out during the weekend. As a volunteer, also known as a 'Gopher' you will help us out a few hours a day (minimum 12 hours spread over the weekend, maximum: as much as you like!) at the time of the convention. There are different shifts to choose from (wardrobe, assisting at events, or assisting at check-in to name but a few), and in return for helping you'll get your own Abunai! 2012 t-shirt as well as a refund of your ticket cost! So sign up now, and get ready to experience Abunai! in a way only a few did: behind the screens!
Also, for those of you who applied as Gopher in previous years and would like to do so again: make sure you've registered and signed up as a gopher (or steward)! If not, we won't know if we can count on you again this year, and thus we won't be able to schedule you in. So if you want to help out, hurry up and apply as a gopher or steward! :-)
For more information on volunteering as a Gopher or Steward, and how to apply, check: http://www.abunaicon.

Booting off this Monday will be our chairman Lennart. You can add us on: chat@stichtingabunai.nl
Cosplay Competitions: rule change & signup deadline
19th of June 2012
Unfortunately the number of signups for the Cosplay Act Competition, Cosplay Fashion Show and EuroCos Preliminaries this year are very low. In order to increase this we decided, like the EuroCos Prelimaries, to allow “acts” that aren’t of Japanese/Asian origin to apply for the Cosplay Act Competition and Cosplay Fashion show. This means that acts which are based on western pop culture can sign up for the competition. We hope that this will create enough interest so that we don't have to cancel these competitions.
In the case that the numbers do not increase on the deadline of the signups, we have no other options but to cancel the Cosplay Act Competition, Cosplay Fashion Show and/or EuroCos Prelimaries.
So, if you have a great idea for an act or an amazing costume, which fit in with our new rule, come and signup for the competition! We need your help to keep the Dutch Cosplay Community alive!
Please note: all other rules still apply
Additional Hotelrooms are coming..!
6th of June 2012
This year's supply of hotelrooms available for visitors went faster than ever, and for the moment we're all but sold out. Some NH Koningshof hotelrooms may still become available due to cancellations or unpaid reservations, however the amount of these will probably be fairly small. We've consulted with the hotel about this, and are pleased to announce that they can offer us additional two person hotelrooms in a nearby NH Hoteles location, for the same prize.
These extra rooms aren't available in the registration system yet, but they will be as soon after we've finished setting this up. NH Best is located at approximately 15 minutes by car from the convention site. For those without a car, there is a regular busline between Hotel Best and De Koningshof (there will be no additional transport service provided by us).
More information will become available in the next few days, when the registration system is ready. We'll also add some information abbout NH Best to the website, as we've done with the NH Koningshof location. But for now we just wanted to give you a quick heads up. More Hotelrooms are coming. And they will be here soon.

It will be one hell of a trip!
20th of February 2012
Last weekend marked the start of the new convention season of 2012 with its first anime and Japanese Culture festival, Tsunacon. Likewise, the planning and work for this year's Abunai! convention has also already begun.
And this year will also hold a special meaning for us, as 2012's convention will be Abunai!'s tenth anniversary! In these ten years we've come a long way, growing from a budget-alternative convention to the Netherlands' largest anime and Japanese culture festival! We've changed locations several times to accomodate this growth, and as an organisation we've changed and grown as well. This year's theme, "The incredible journey", will reflect upon that voyage, and go even beyond that. Yes, this year is all about travelling: about an actual journey from one location to the other (for example to Japan, or the Abunai! convention, or even travel inside the convention grounds can be quite a journey ;-) ). However it is also about the journey of the mind: of spiritual growth and the gaining of wisdom. And finally, there is also the trek along the river of time, the changes that happened as the years went by.
So gather up your travel gear, stock up your backpack with Pocky and Ramune, and get ready for your trip to this year's Abunai!, held from August 24th - 26th at NH Koningshof in Veldhoven, The Netherlands. It's going to be an Incredible Journey!
Abunai! 2011 is over!
11th of September 2011
With over 3000 visitors coming to Abunai!, it is safe to say that Abunai! 2011 has been a great success. We would like to thank all the visitors for coming (again) this year, you all made it possible for Abunai! to grow even bigger this year. We really hoped you enjoyed Abunai! 2011 and don't be shy to give your feedback in our forums, we will read it all and make sure to improve where we can next year. If you like to have a little Abunai! 2011 after talk or view or share photos of the convention, the forum is also a good place to look.
We would also like to thank all our volunteers and external parties and of course our sponsors. Everybody worked really hard and together and made Abunai! even better this year. Let's make Abunai! 2012 even better, it is our 10th anniversary after all! That's right, next year is the tenth Abunai!, so you can be sure to expect something extra!
Last but not least: For those waiting for their Archonia voucher, we are currently busy getting them send to you, enjoy the discount.
Hope to see you all again next year!
Abunai sold out for Saturday!
27th of August 2011
Our sales this year are through the roof. We are of course very happy that so many people want to attend Abunai, but unfortunately there is also a downside. Our tickets for the Saturday are almost sold out. If you did not acquire a saturday ticket (whether paid or reserved) through our registration system it will not be possible to get one at the door. Of course, you are still more than welcome to visit us on sunday.
2011 Convention Layout online!
19th of August 2011
We have updated the website with the new 2011 Convention Layout. On this map you can see which areas are in use during Abunai, and where the most important spots are. At check-in you will also be provided with a paper version of this map which you can carry with you so you will never get lost again! ;-]
We are working hard on getting the Programme Schedule online, and expect it somewhere this weekend if all goes well.
It's over 2500! (and almost sold out)
16th of August 2011
Ticket sales for 'Abunai!' this year are proceeding well beyond our expectations with a lot more people who are 'looking for group' than ever! Today the ticket count for Saturday alone is already, as Vegeta might say, over 2500 (and growing!).
Because of the insane bookings these last few days, and because we don't want to overstretch ourselves by growing faster than we can plan for and accomodate, we've decided to impose a visitor limit per day at 2800. In short that means there are less than 300 tickets available for the Saturday! So if you're planning to visit, be sure to sign up fast. You can pay your ticket at the convention site, however you can also book your ticket in our registration system to make sure you'll still be able to attend! See you all next week!
Gyaru Lecture & Gyaru Fashion Show
12th of August 2011
The girls of HYPER will be present at Abunai! to give a lecture on the Gyaru fashion style, and also show off outfits during a fashion show. Watch their introduction on Youtube:
Get your last cheap tickets and dinner vouchers before Friday the 12th!
7th of August 2011
Next Friday, the door prices for our tickets will be put in order. At that time, we will also close registrations for the dinner buffet, so get your cheap tickets and your dinner vouchers before then!
Any tickets reserved after Friday 0:00 will cost 5 euros extra (regardless of the amount of days) and can only be paid at the check-in of Abunai. Any tickets ordered before that time can be paid as normal, keeping the usual payment term of two weeks in mind.
A limited amount of dinner vouchers will also be for sale at our check-in at Abunai! (pending availability).
Hotel rooms sold out and finalized
26th of July 2011
Unfortunately, all hotel rooms are now sold out. Also, because it is now within the final five weeks of the convention (as stated in the general agreements), it is now no longer possible to cancel your hotel room because we have to send a finalized list of visitors who have a hotel room to the NH Koningshof.
Quest for The Last Hotelrooms
21st of July 2011
Hotelrooms! They're back, but they're very limited, with perhaps only a few hands full, distributed across various days. We've freed up unused rooms, deleted double bookings, and scraped up every inch of unused hotel space we could find to bring you just a few more hotelrooms. However, this will be it, the last batch, so get them while you still can!
As mentioned in the previous hotelroom post, when a room type is sold out you'll no longer be able to select it in our order form. Make sure to check back on occassion however, since rooms may become available again, as unpaid registrations are purged automatically every 14 days.
Opening and closing times 2011
19th of June 2011
The opening hours for 'Abunai! 2011 - looking for group" have been determined and announced on our website. On the first day we'll be starting an hour earlier than last year, at 2pm.
On Friday and Saturday night Abunai! will continue until 3am, however we're still looking at options for an all-night program. If we choose to go ahead with this however, we will announce this separately on our website.
Extra hotelrooms available!
5th of June 2011
A few weeks ago we announced that the hotelrooms were sold out for the time being, however that some might become available again if not paid for. At the same time we've negotiated with the hotelroom for additional rooms for the same prize, and managed to make a claim on pretty much every room that was left. So hotelrooms are available again! We've got a little bit of everything, though most of them are single person rooms, but the amount is limited (20-25).
When a room type is sold out, you'll no longer be able to select it in our order form. Make sure to check back on occassion however, since rooms may become available again, as unpaid registrations are purged automatically every 14 days. Eventually there'll come a time when all hotelrooms are registered and paid for of course. This will be the moment when we're completely sold out, but we'll also announce this on our website.
Weekly MSN question hour
27th of May 2011
Starting in June the Abunai! staff will be available on msn to answer all the questions about the convention you might have. We will do this every week on Monday from 8PM till 9PM. Do note that, while we will try to answer your questions on the spot, every staff member has their own field of expertise. For example, one staff member may know all about ticket registrations but not so much about the events. You can also talk to during this chat session if you have ideas regarding the convention. Please do be patient during the chat sessions, as we might be busy looking up the information that you requested or helping another visitor with their question. We will start on Monday, June 6th. Add us on: chat@stichtingabunai.nl

Hotelrooms sold out (for now)!
14th of May 2011
Originally we had been planning on posting a heads up that the hotelrooms are going fast now that Animecon is over, however the reality of the situation quickly caught up with us. These past few days there have been a lot of new registrations and as a result the hotelrooms are now sold out. This goes for -all- rooms, both one person and two person rooms. As a result you will be unable to select these hotelroom options in our registration system.
We will contact the hotel to see if we can expand the number of rooms we can offer you, however these will all be single person rooms (the two person rooms have already all been booked). Additionally, rooms might become available again in the near future, because they haven't been paid for on time (within 14 days), or because of double bookings or registrations getting cancelled, however this is something we can't guarantee at this moment, because it is too early to tell. Please keep watching our website for further news on this.
In the meantime, be advised that there will be no option to put on a "reserve-list" or something similar, simply because this will result in a lot of additional administration, and because it's very difficult to keep this fair.
Note: this situation only applies to registrations for the hotel rooms; for our convention itself and for Ryo Fujimura's concert there are still plenty of tickets available.
Update: Unfortunately, the superior rooms are now sold out as well. A small amount of rooms might become available as cancellations are processed, but we cannot guarantee anything at this moment. Keep a close eye on the Abunai! website for future updates!
Ryo Fujimura in concert!
2nd of May 2011
After the amazing success of last year's concert by Yuuki, Abunai! is proud to present: Ryo Fujimura! The rocker from Japan will be back in Europe for a one time concert in the Netherlands at the Abunai! convention in Veldhoven.
He is no stranger to Europe either, where in 2008 Ryo was touring with his band AciD Flavor until they split up in 2010. Now Ryo is focused on his solo career with already 2 maxi-singles released and a third on the way.
So who knows, maybe he will play his new songs for the first time in Europe..!
The concert will be held on Saturday night and is accessible to both Abunai! visitors as well as outside visitors, however the visitors of Abunai! get a discount. For Abunai! visitors a concert ticket will cost 4 euros, you can order these through our registration system (if you've already registered, you can alter your order to include a ticket). For people who want to attend the concert but don't have an Abunai! ticket the price will be 15 euros, these tickets can also be obtained through our registration system.
Contest at Animecon: VIP Ticket and Bento Prize
23rd of April 2011
As some of you might know, in a few weeks Anime 2011 will be held, on 6-8 May to be exact. Of course Abunai! will be there as well to sell tickets! Other than that we will also hold a competition at our stand where you can win a VIP-ticket! With a VIP-ticket you are allowed to skip lines at the convention and you will also get a limited edition t-shirt.
But that's not all: this time we have a very nice additional prize for another lucky winner, namely a starter bento set sponsored by Meta van Gijn from the website www.leukelunch.nl . She has a lot of fun ideas to make your lunch or bento more special, so if you always wanted to try making a bento yourself, visit her site and don't forget to drop by at our stand for a chance to win this great bento set!(click the image for a larger view)
Fundraising for Japan (donations and auction)
14th of March 2011
You have probably heard the terrible news about the natural disasters in Japan. As Abunai! we would like to make a contribution to help Japan in this difficult time. Therefore Abunai! will put 5 VIP tickets up for auction on our e-bay account which you can bid on. The money we collect with this action will be donated to the Red Cross for helping the people in Japan.
A VIP ticket is a whole weekend ticket which allows you to skip lines and you will also get a limited edition t-shirt. The last time we put a VIP ticket up for sale, we did this to support Serious Request (an anual radio charity, this year's theme was the battle against AIDS) and we raised 188 euro to help the good cause.
So if you care about the people of Japan, and you would like to make your Abunai! weekend extra special, you can bid on our VIP Tickets. The auction starts on Monday the 14th of March and will last 5 days. Bidding will begin at 55 euro. If you would like to make a donation without buying a VIP ticket, you can transfer the amount of money to our bank account (10.37.77.946 FAO Stichting Abunai!, Enschede). Please write Help Japan in the description field so we know it is for our action. You can send in your donations until Friday 18th and we will transfer the money to the Red Cross together with the raised money from our VIP-tickets.
We wish the people of Japan and their families strength and good faith while dealing with this crisis and we hope that with this fundraising can make a positive contribution to the process of emergency aid and recovery.
New addition: Euro Cosplay Championships preliminaries!
12th of February 2011
This year we have a new, exciting addition to our programme: the preliminaries for the Euro Cosplay Championships (Eurocos for short) held at the MCM Expo London and you can be a part of it.
The Eurocos is a European Cosplay Contest where several European countries will compete against each other for having the best cosplayer. Last year the competition was between about eighteen different countries. And this year Abunai will be able to send one of the contestants to this very competition, held in the weekend of the 28th till the 30th of October 2011 in London at the MCM Expo. Some information about this competition:
- you need to at least be 18 years of age.
- you have to be able to attend the MCM Expo show.
- It's for single person 'acts'.
- The competition is for the cosplayer, not the costume; if you win the preliminaries with a certain costume, nothing will hold you back taking another costume to the Eurocos at the MCM Expo itself.
The winner of this competition will receive:
- A ticket to London for one person (Eurostar or local airlines)
- Overnight stay during MCM Expo, including breakfast for two nights
More info on this competition and how to subscribe will be given in the future. Keep an eye on our forum.

Win Abunai VIP access and support Serious Request!
23rd of December 2010
Serious Japan is an initiative bij several Japanese themed organisations in The Netherlands to contribute to Radio 3FM's Serious Request event. During this event some of the station's DJs lock themselves up in a glass house, playing non-stop music with no food for a week, to bring attention to a worldwide problem. This year's theme is the battle against AIDS.
3FM has dedicated this year to the battle against AIDS and prevention, and Ani-Nation and Abunai!, amongst others, have joined that fight. Of course you can donate money at 3FM to support this charity event, but you can also contribute through us.
Ani-Nation has launched a special auction site (which can be found here), where you can win some nice goodies and support charity at the same time, since all money raised by this auction will be donated to the 3FM Serious Request event.
To support this auction, Abunai! has prepared a special VIP Package! This package has never been offered for sale before and includes all weekend access to 'Abunai! 2011 - Looking for group', a limited edition VIP T-Shirt and the additional privilege to skip waiting lines at our convention! The estimated value of this combination deal is 50+ euros, but bidding starts at 40 euros (an Abunai! all weekend ticket costs 39 euro)!
The bidding will lasts for 24 hours, so join us in our quest to defeat the evil called AIDS - make your bid and win this VIP combination deal!
Looking for group, and: It's over 2100!
24th of November 2010
Even though it's still over a month until New Year's Eve, the new year has already begun for Abunai!'s crew. 2011's theme, "Looking for group", is all about Japanese RPGs and carrying out quests for treasure, experience and glory! We've gathered the suggestions you made on forums and through other media, as well as some our own ideas, and plan to put these to good use, for even though Abunai!con 2010 is over, the power is still yours! 2011 promises to be a sparkling (though not of the vampire kind ;-) ) new year, and we're already busy hatching some plots in our quest to bring to you a convention to remember.
Oh, and on one final note: along with rounding up 2010, we've also verified in our database how many visitors checked in this weekend, and we're pleased to announce that according to the statistics we had over 2100 visitors this year! It's not quite over 9000 yet, but it's at least five hundred additional visitors compared to 2009, so enough to shake up our Scouters! Thank you all for visiting and making Abunai! 2010 the best one yet!
Abunai! at F.A.C.T.S.
8th of October 2010
On the 23rd and 24th of October the 20th edition of F.A.C.T.S. (Fantasy, Anime, Comics, Toys, Space) will take place in the Flanders Expo in Ghent, Belgium. F.A.C.T.S. is an annual convention hosted by Con-Fuse bvba for the promotion of fantasy, science fiction, comics and Japanese animation.
This year promises to be a spectacle, with cosplay, games, cardgames, a large dealer room, anime and a lot of celebrities, such as Dwight Schultz and Dirk Benedict (the A-Team), Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager), Doug Bradley (Hellraiser), and Guy Siner, Arthur Bostrom and Sue Hodge ('Allo 'Allo) to name but a few. Also present will be Mangafique, the collective of Dutch Dojinshi circles. Finally, Tsunacon will also be present to promote their own Japanese culture convention in January 2011.
Abunai! will be present at F.A.C.T.S.' dealer area, so be sure to visit our stand to get acquainted with our next convention's theme, ask questions, or if you simply want to have a quick chat. We'll also be offering a limited (!) amount of vouchers for Abunai! 2011: "Looking for group", so if you want some early tickets, be sure to visit - especially since we'll be offering these tickets for the same price as the 2010 tickets!
For more information about F.A.C.T.S. you can visit the official FACTS website
Abunai!2010 is over T_T
4th of September 2010
'Abunai! 2010: The power is yours' is over.
We would like to thank all the visitors for making this con possible! Abunai! wouldn't exist without you all. We would also like to thank all our volunteers for helping us during the weekend.
We feel that Abunai! 2010 on our new location was a great success and we are happy to announce that we will be back next year at NH Koningshof.
Of course there is always room for improvement so don’t hesitate to leave feedback on the forum.
People also have shared their best moments on Abunai! there as well as pictures they've taken. We'd love to see more of this, so please come and join our various aftertalk topics.
Last but not least: we are currently working to get the Archonia discount vouchers mailed to you!
We all hope to see you again next year, same place and approximately same time!
Still a few hotel rooms left!
25th of August 2010
We have a couple of hotel rooms left for those who are interested. When you select the room in our registration system, they are reserved to you and you are guaranteed to have a room. If any are still available, you can also get a hotel room at our check-in desk even.
Payments can be done at the door (check-in) in cash, unless you use "priority payment" which would guarantee that the money is on our bank account by Thursday 26-08-2010 @ 16:00. If the money is not on our bank account before then, it will be refunded and you will have to pay at the door afterall.
Also, for those of you who don't mind sharing a room, check out our forum because there are a few people who are still looking for a roommate.
Abunai! on RTV Amstelveen
14th of August 2010
Today some staff members of Abunai! will be guests at "Hello Japan", a radio program on RTV Amstelveen brought to you by Charles van Vessem.
Be sure to listen for there'll be a chance to win some tickets for the convention! Also, besides telling a bit more about Abunai! and the events we have lined up for you this year, we'll also be making an additional anouncement of an extra event not yet listed on our Events Schedule which promises to be a spectacular addition to this year's program!
"Hello Japan" will air at 5 o'clock in the afternoon, but for those who won't be able to catch it on the first run, there will be reruns on Tuesday and Thursday, at the same hour.
Visit RTV Amstelveen's website for a complete radio schedule, as well as an opportunity to listen to the radio online, for those not in the Amsterdam/Amstelveen area.
Hotelrooms available again!
13th of August 2010
For those of you who were unable to obtain a hotelroom before they sold out, we have some good news: We've managed to free up some rooms, and at the same time we've been able to obtain additional rooms from NH Koningshof. New registrations will be able to add a hotelroom again as their options, and existing registrations will be able to edit theirs to include a hotelroom if they so wish so.
For a twopersonroom it is also possible to alter your registration to include a preference for a twin bed option (two single beds) or a double bed (one larger bed for two people).
Besides rooms for two persons we also have a number of single person hotelrooms available. The price for these rooms will be the same as a two person room, but without the option to include a roommate. This price however will still be cheaper than booking through NH Koningshof directly.
As we mentioned earlier we've extended the online registration period by another week, until the 20th of August. This also means the ticketprice will remain the same for another week. After the online ticketsale closes, you'll only be able to purchase an entry ticket at the convention site itself (if we're not sold out), for the door price.
Opening times, extended registration, and: hotelrooms will be available again soon..!
12th of August 2010
With the weekend of Abunai! drawing ever closer, many of you have already wondered about this year's opening times and asked about it. Well, we've finally finalised our own planning and schedules, meaning we've got a timeslot for each day's opening and ending. Ready? Here they come:
Friday: 15:00 - 03:00
Saturday: 10:00 - 03:00
Sunday: 10:00 - 17:00
We've also decided to extended the online ticket registration by another week (so until the 20th of August). Why? Because we've managed to obtain another batch of hotel rooms, and we want to give our visitors a chance to obtain them before the convention starts. More news on this will follow soon on the website and forum, as soon as we've finished preparations for this.
Events schedule Online
8th of August 2010
Our events schedule has just been uploaded to our website. Check the Events Schedule page to get a good impression on what we have to offer you this year.
Mind you, everything is still subject to change! Don't take these times for granted.
Door Prices
25th of July 2010
Since there is only a month left till Abunai! we will be closing the ticket sale soon. You can order your tickets till Friday August 13th. After that date we will only offer tickets at the door. This means that you pay at the door, but you can reserve a ticket beforehand to make sure you have access to the convention. The door tickets will be a little more expensive; 44 euro for the whole weekend, so make sure to order before the 13th to get the tickets for a cheap price!
Revision of payment period
22nd of July 2010
Up until now Abunai! has been fairly lenient with the payment of registrations for our convention, allowing a visitor a period of up to four weeks after first buying a ticket to complete their purchase and transfer the required amount of money to us. However now Abunai! is drawing closer, we can no longer offer a reservation period this long.
Therefore we've decided to bring this period more in line with the average business standard of 2 weeks, meaning that after you order a ticket (or additional services at Abunai!), you will have up to 14 days to complete this registration, or your order will be cancelled.
note: this only goes for new registrations, existing registrations can still make use of their 4 week limit to complete their payment - the time period mentioned in the e-mail you received after ordering tickets is the one that will apply for you.
Hotelrooms (almost) sold out
18th of July 2010
As expected the demand for hotel rooms at NH Koningshof has been great, but the rate at which they're selling outlived even our own expectations. At the moment, the hotelrooms reserved by Abunai! for the saturday/sunday nighthave all been booked, and the friday/saturday night hotelrooms are close to their maximum as well. As a result, you'll be unable to select these options in our registration system.
We're discussing options with the hotel to see if we can get more rooms available. Additionally, rooms might become available in the near future, because they haven't been paid for on time, or because of double bookings or registrations getting cancelled, however this is something we can't guarantee at this moment, because it is too early to tell. Please keep watching our website for further news on this.
Note: this only applies to registrations for the hotel rooms; for our convention itself there are still a number of tickets available.
Convention/House Rules updated
29th of June 2010
We have updated the Convention/House Rules. A dutch translation is forthcoming.
Check out the new updated rules at the Rules page.

16th of June 2010
For the Cosplay Act Competition and the Cosplay Fashion Show we put the rules online. For the AMV Competition we have put a FAQ online.
The signups for all these competitions will open soon, as soon as we are done making the signup templates.
Cosplay Fashion Show videos online
1st of June 2010
After some extra delay we finally were able to also get the CFS videos online on the website now!
Check them out over at the Convention Archive.
Unfortunately, the DVD that was sent to us with the high quality material for both the CAC (Acts) and CFS has been lost in the mail by TNT, so we are awaiting a new one.
Once we have this DVD in our possession we can start supplying the people from the acts that are interested with a video for home use.
Registration is finally up!
10th of May 2010
As you may have noticed, our registration system is up in running. Get your tickets while they're hot! You can get them here!
'What is your major malfunction?'
19th of March 2010
Our hosting provider has suffered a major technical problem, causing them to place backups back of over 3 weeks old. We will try and get a more recent backup but we will most likely have lost alot of information which was put online, aswell as forum posts, over the past 2-3 weeks. The forum is offline untill we had more time to deal with this problem (so if we put a more recent backup back it won't overwrite newly made posts).
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Abunai! at Tsunacon
21st of January 2010
Abunai! is present at Tsunacon 2010. We got a nice little stand in the dealer room, so be sure to drop by. We're having a fun competition, be sure to join! You may even win a coveted ticket!
Abunai! 2010 Location and Date Finally Announced!
10th of January 2010
First of all, the Abunai! staff would like to wish all of you a wonderful 2010.
There has been a lot of ongoing discussion about the location of Abunai! for a few years and, taking into account the feedback provided by our visitors, our crew has been working very hard in finding a new convention site. We've been scouting different locations and after a good amount of consideration and plenty of debating, we believe we have finally been able to find a location that will not only restore the original essense of Abunai!, but will also improve upon it.
This year Abunai! will be held at NH Koningshof in Veldhoven. The NH Koningshof is a large convention centre which hosts a number of conventions and events each year, ranging from workshops to charity events or larger events such as the dutch Darts championship. It's far more spacious than our previous locations, in a more quiet and greener environment. There is a camping site in the vicinity, and as NH Koningshof holds a very large number of hotel rooms (over 500), getting a good sleeping accomodation should be no problem at all this year.
Abunai! has also struck a deal with NH Koningshof regarding sleeping accomodations, allowing us to offer the hotel rooms at a cheaper price; more information about this, as well as this year's ticket prices (and registration) will be made available soon.
The only thing left now is to announce the date of our next convention. In 2010 Abunai! will be held from Friday 27th of August until Sunday 29th, a little earlier than previous years, but with the summer temperatures of august, the green environment of Abunai will only be more enjoyable.
New Theme announced for 2010!
23rd of October 2009
As you can see above, the new theme is here!
We are, however, still sorting out where to host Abunai! in 2010. We're looking at various possibilities and we hope to announce date and location as soon as possible.
Stay Tuned!
Abunai! has come and gone!
30th of September 2009
It's been about two weeks now since we had Abunai!. We're still running around and finishing things up. But we're also getting ready for next year!
All of us at Abunai! would like to thank all our visitors for coming again this year. We had more than 1600 visitors! We hope to match or even overtake that number next year. We had a fantastic weekend thanks to all of you. Seeing all the reactions on several forums, you all had a blast as well!
Speaking of next year, we'll be back!! Date and location haven't been determined yet, but keep a close eye on our website, because we will announce it as soon as possible. The new theme will be announced there as well shortly.
If you want to help us improve Abunai! even further, or have some suggestions for events, locations or even themes, let us know in this forum tread: New ideas for Abunai!.
That's all for now. See you again soon!
Last tickets and cottages
17th of September 2009
If you haven't managed to get a ticket yet, now is your last chance. We have a few more tickets available.
If you have ordered tickets for the other days yet, you can add another dayticket to your registration through this page: Registration Change. However, if you have yet to sign up for Abunai! at all, then you can order your tickets on our Registration Form.
If you already have a camping spot but want to upgrade to a cottage, just order yourself a cottage spot and contact us, and we'll gladly put the money you already paid for the camping towards your cottage spot instead.
Wake-up Martial Arts (WMA) has returned!
14th of September 2009
Due to high demand (and because we really like the event ourselfs) the Wake-up Martial Arts has returned to Abunai! 2009. This year the martial art of choice fel to Tai Chi. The event will be given by Judith van Drooge. Next to the Wake-up exercises she will also do a short demonstration with several types of weapons.
The event will be held on saturday and sunday morning, 10:00 - 11:00, in the Theater. It will be 'full = full' but there will be enough room for a big number of participants (and also just onlookers). Meet us there and start your day fresh and awake!
Ticket booth reopened!
8th of September 2009
All of you have long awaited the moment the ticket booth would be reopened again. That time is now! After long hours of filtering out all the tickets that were either cancelled or paid for too late, the remaining tickets are now open to be resold. There are some cottage spots available as well.
For the people who already have a ticket: If you have a ticket but want to add a ticket for a different day or something like dinner to your registration, use the following page: Registration Change. With this new feature you can easily select more tickets or other things to be added to your registration. This way you don't have to wait for us to do it for you! Mind you, only one specific ticket per registration, so, for example, no two saturday tickets.
You don't have any ticket yet? Then go to the following page: Registration Form. Here you can register your ticket.
Keep in mind to pay your tickets in a timely fashion. Payments that are sent in very shortly before the convention may not be received in time. In that case you will have to pay for your tickets at the door and any excess payments will be refunded after the convention.
This second presale will be online as long as there are tickets left, so make sure to get yours in time!

The Sounds of Abunai!
30th of June 2009
Last year we brought you a pre-con event, a writing contest focusing on that year's 'Legendary' Theme, and we've decided we want to bring you something similar again this year.
Maybe you've already spotted us at Tsunacon, Animecon or Chibicon, bringing you a small dance contest to already get you in the mood for this year's convention theme, however the music doesn't stop there: starting today, we're launching another contest, running until the end of august: make something related to music: a song, lyrics, a whole musical, anything! Of course the more original you get, the higher your chances of winning a free ticket! For more information, check out the compo page.

Developers Log, Abunaidate: 20090517
17th of May 2009
Each year brings change and excitement. This year is no less. Our Chairman brings you a story about the upcoming convention in a brand new developers log.
Previous years we have used the DevLog as a way to give visitors updates on our progress during the months working up to the convention. Last year there was very little action because we were overly busy getting things ready for the new location but this year we want to make up to you with regular™ updates from different staff members!
(frequency of updates are subject to change depending on news value and spare time ;-])
